My life’s mission statement

I am at my best when I know what is expected of me and I have creative freedom to reach my goals.

I will try to prevent times when I am responsible for data, numbers, and analysis, and my time is unstructured.

I will enjoy my work by finding employment where I can carefully craft e-mails and written statements, creatively arrange and typeset documents, communicate with others via writing, collaborate with team members, bringing them closer together, teach others how to operate technology, take information that others provide and pull it together into a cohesive, meaningful presentation.

I will find enjoyment in my personal life through reading great works of fiction, seeking out music, movies, and works of art that move me and finding a way to share them with others, recording and sharing my personal thoughts, listening to what’s happening in the lives of those surrounding me, and finding out more about the world.

I will find opportunities to use my natural talents and gifts such as writing, crafts, singing and playing music, learning languages, reading & analyzing, sharing emotions, cooking, arranging things, making things look nice (design), speaking articulately (when prepared), role playing, and supporting others.

I can do anything I set my mind to. I will travel to the farthest corners of the world and observe interesting and mysterious strangers. Learn about new places. Keep my family close to me. Read all the classics and record my reviews. Improve my writing abilities, write poetry, and share it with others. Teach others how to express themselves through writing. Learn to play music, write music, and perform music.

My life’s journey is to learn and understand as much as possible about the world around me and how people interact so I can have the strongest possible relationships with my loved ones. I will do this by reading, traveling, observing, immersing myself in art and culture created by others and from other places, and reflecting on my own life.

I will be a person whom my family, my loved ones and my old friends consider kind, thoughtful, creative, funny and full of life. I want them to think I’ve made a difference in their lives by making them happy somehow, sharing in their good times and helping them through their hard times.

My most important future contribution to others will be the values and the smarts that I instill in my future children, the appreciation for diversity and culture, and the desire for understanding of other people in the world and what they’re going through. I also hope to inspire friends and acquaintances with my cheerful and positive point of view, to brighten their lives with things I create and share with them. I want to spread love and light.

I will stop procrastinating and start working on:

Going back to school for a Masters and a Ph.D. and becoming a professor.
Reading more books and thinking more deeply, then expressing these thoughts/reviews by writing about them.
Being a better friend and staying in touch with the rest of the world more effectively. Staying close with friends who have moved far away. Being closer to my family.

I will strive to incorporate the following attributes into my life:

creativity, sharpness of wit, life experience, unabashed confidence
complete and utter selflessness, close family values, personal faith, hard working spirit, empathy, natural curiosity
deep appreciation for literature/the art of language, ability to teach others how to appreciate and understand language & the written word, empathy

I will constantly renew myself by focusing on the four dimensions of my life:

Continuing to pursue weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. Exercising regularly to gain confidence and energy. Making time to move my body, even small amounts, every day. Keeping my environment clean and organized.
Reflecting on my own life and my thoughts by taking time to write. Expressing my thoughts by journaling or blogging. Nurturing my relationships with my loved ones so I feel strong.
Staying abreast of current events by reading the news. Reading at least 6 just-for-fun books per year, and considering writing reviews of them and sharing those. Learning how to play a musical instrument – taking lessons and actually practicing. Scheduling time for these things, and sticking to them.
Seeing my friends regularly. Speaking with one family member every day and one close friend every week. Seeing a counselor to discuss stress and my career.
