Flower power

This piece from the wonderful Gwynnie Bee was taking up valuable real estate in my actual closet for a couple weeks before I worked up the bravery to wear it. It fits similarly to the Whimsy Wrap, with the main difference being that it just happens to have a print. I didn’t have to wear Spanx with this one though — the print is much more forgiving than the solid green was. The print itself is loud and very Golden Girls, but the tones of red, yellow, coral, green and cream flowers are pleasant on the black backdrop. A cami was a must under the plunge neckline for work-wear (typical for wrap dresses).

It’s another subzero day in seriously snowy Michigan, so I wore this dress with a cardigan, thick tights/leggings, lace-up ankle boots and socks! I wore my hair straight and my big glasses, and altogether I felt like a lovely 90’s librarian (that’s “1990’s,” not “in-her-90’s,” but either one is fine with me). I ended up wearing it with the cream sweater for most of the day, and I received several compliments from coworkers. If I wore it again, I’d pick a black cardigan instead, but I felt comfortable and confident all day. It was really cozy for a dress ensemble. I got ready for work in a hurry this morning, and it’s tough looking cheerful at 6 something a.m., and my wonderful sweet husband got out of bed to take my picture.

One thing I’ve noticed and appreciated about Gwynnie Bee (and no, they are definitely NOT paying me to say this) is that it gives me more bravery and confidence in my body and in my appearance than I’ve ever really had as a plus-size person. Receiving clothes I’d ordinarily be too shy to purchase for myself, delivered to my door, is just the nudge I need to wear them out in the world. It takes the fear away, and it’s all temporary. There’s nothing you can’t be brave enough to wear just ONE time. Risk free. All the clothes I’ve received, I’ve only worn once and then sent right back, because I’ve been excited to receive and try new ones. I did mail two pieces straight back after trying them on and finding them ill-fitting, but I could’ve worn them if I really wanted to, you can’t win ’em all, and they make shipping so easy. Can’t wait to ship this flowered thing back and get a new item. Ha!
